DEEP MIND is a Seoul-based contemporary jazz collective consisting of five young musicians with one of the freshest and most distinctive sounds in South Korea: Jaeshin Park (bass), Jongkuk “JK” Kim (drums), Youngwoo Lee (keyboard), Sangjun Ahn (guitar), and Junho Song (guitar). The group was formed around the release of their debut album Deep Mind in 2021.
Rather than centering virtuosity as spectacle, DEEP MIND focuses on collective expression. The ensemble balances tight rhythmic foundations with fluid, exploratory textures, often shifting between composed structures and spontaneous interaction. Their music draws from jazz but extends naturally into electronic music, alternative R&B, and experimental sound design—creating a language that feels both grounded and open-ended. The presence of dual guitars and synthesizers allows for a wide spectrum of tonal layering, where clarity and density coexist, and where arrangement often emerges organically from the group dynamic.

Since their debut, the band has been noted for its distinctive approach: technically sophisticated yet never confined to fusion clichés, playful yet deeply intentional, and driven as much by sound and texture as by harmony and form. This approach reflects the group’s shared philosophy—prioritizing ensemble balance and musical direction over individual display.
DEEP MIND’s second album, Deepmind II, captures the group at a new level of cohesion, where each member’s identity is fully present yet seamlessly integrated into a unified sonic vision. Expanding on the exploratory spirit of their debut, the album moves fluidly between tightly arranged compositions and intuitive, jam-derived structures. Tracks often evolve through collective arrangement, with ideas introduced by one member and reshaped in real time by the ensemble.
The result is music that feels alive—texturally rich, emotionally resonant, and at times immersive to the point of near-transcendence. Whether through intricate rhythmic interplay, layered electronic timbres, or moments of unexpected space, Deepmind II reflects a band that composes as it performs: collaboratively, instinctively, and without fixed boundaries.
At its core, DEEP MIND is less a project than a shared musical organism—one that continues to evolve through trust, curiosity, and a deep commitment to sound.

CURRENT PROJECT
Deepmind II
Deepmind II captures DEEP MIND at a stage where individual voices fully converge into a shared and instinctive band language. Rooted in the chemistry of five distinctive musicians, the album reflects a collective identity that prioritizes interaction, balance, and a deep sense of musical trust over individual display.
At the core of the record is a fluid and collaborative creative process. Ideas are often introduced in simple or fragmentary forms, then developed organically through rehearsal and recording. The band’s dynamic allows compositions to evolve in real time—blurring the line between written material and improvisation, and resulting in music that feels both intentional and alive.

This approach is revealed across the album’s tracks. “Mischief” presents a fully composed framework brought into the group and realized without alteration, while “Intermission” emerges from an extended jam, later shaped through careful editing. “Do You Know JK?” builds from a minimal concept designed to highlight the drummer’s presence, whereas “Ballad for No One” introduces a contrasting moment of space and ambiguity through a spontaneously constructed form. Closing track “YWL” reflects a more deliberate compositional intent, written with the band members themselves in mind, resulting in a dense yet cohesive musical statement.
With its layered textures—interweaving dual guitars, synthesizers, and a tightly grounded rhythm section—the album moves seamlessly between structure and freedom. Deepmind II ultimately presents DEEP MIND not simply as a group of virtuosos, but as a unified musical organism, where composition and performance exist as one continuous, evolving process.
