SOOJIN SUH

Worldwide Excluding Korea

Soojin Suh is a drummer, composer, and creative music artist whose work bridges contemporary jazz with Korean musical aesthetics. As a bandleader, Suh has released several acclaimed recordings, including The Moon in Your Hand (2014) with her quintet, and two albums with the Soojin Suh Chordless Quartet: Strange Liberation (2018) and Roots to Branches (2021). Following the release of Strange Liberation, the quartet gained international attention and was invited to showcase at Jazzahead.

Her current project, Soojin Suh Coloris Trio, offers a distinctive approach to the piano trio format. Built around the concept of “melodic breath” — rooted in Korean musical aesthetics — the trio emphasizes collective phrasing, detailed arrangements, and improvisation that grows organically from the melodic pulse. Their debut album Colorist (2020) received the Best Jazz Performance Award at the Korean Music Awards, and the trio has since performed at international festivals including the EFG London Jazz Festival, Enjoy Jazz, JazzFest Budapest, NOSPR, and Jazz in July.

The trio’s second album, Prism of Existence, is set for release on June 19, 2026. Featuring pianist Jaehun Kang and bassist Hoo Kim, the album deepens the ensemble’s exploration of collective sound while reflecting on the many facets of human experience and the uncertainties that shape it. Through Suh’s compositions, the trio moves between intimacy and expansiveness — examining the inner landscape of existence from multiple angles, like light refracted through a prism.
